Superintendent's report: Supt. Deb Henton reviewed the progress made on the school district's strategic plan. Click below to view her presentation as well as other materials from the school board meeting.

Organization: There were no changes to the school board structure for 2012. Kim Salo will remain chair, Kirby Ekstrom vice chair, Jay Falk the clerk and John White, treasurer. Directly following the organizational meeting, oncoming school board member Trent Jensen was sworn in and seated. Committees were assigned for 2012 as part of the regular meeting.

High school air conditioner: The school board reviewed three bids and approved a bid including a McQuay air-cooled unit totaling $196,500. The high-efficiency unit is expected to save the school district over $12,000 in energy costs annually.

Public comment: The school board was asked to review the school district's advertising policy by a resident. Teachers also spoke on behalf of the NBEA regarding contract negotiations.

Policy: Policy 515 - Protection and privacy of pupil records was approved, as was policy 406 - Public and private personnel data. Policy 419 - Tobacco-free environment was tabled for clarification. PLEASE NOTE: With school board approval of Policy 515 - Protection and privacy of pupil records, "place of birth" has been removed from what the district considers directory information. Copies of the new policy are available through the district office 651-674-1000, or call 651-674-1018 for more information. Hard copies will be mailed to each family in the fall.

In other news: The district's pay equity report and 2011-12 staff development plan were approved.

Correction: The original agenda for the Jan. 12 meeting contained an error. Community Education Director Jeanne Leland has announced her intention to retire after 33 years of serving the district. It was incorrectly referred to as a resignation on the agenda. North Branch Area Public Schools regrets the error.

For your information: Attached to this e-mail is a document entitled "NBAPS levy history," created for the Schools for Equity in Education ad-hoc litigation committee, which is exploring a lawsuit against the state for inequities in school funding.
